The Broken Boat by Onaopemipo Olabiyi

My heart of stone, numb

against my chest.

As the thorn-like pain prickles me.

The fracturing world of mine, consumed

by the single sliver of a lie.

My lie.

Life is good.

The reality of me,

A broken boat in the middle of a storm.

Waves submerging,

The boat is sinking.

It’s at the bottom,

gasping for air,

reaching out to the shore.

Feels a pull,

a faint glimmer of light.

The boat is sinking but

is trying to pull through.
