Eligibility

  • Be a student currently enrolled in middle or high school (age 13-18 by the time of application).

  • Previous experience with editing is not required! We will walk you through the editorial process.

  • Passion for creative writing, visual art, history, or cultural heritage.

Marketing Team Member

As part of our marketing team, you will be responsible for promoting The Trailblazer in the literary world. You will be in charge of maintaining our social media accounts. Tasks include creating Instagram Posts upon request, sharing relevant posts, tracking engagement, and responding to direct messages. Experience with design platforms (ex. Canva, InDesign, Photoshop, iMovie) is strongly encouraged.

You will also be responsible for connecting and building partnerships with high schools, universities, and relevant organizations worldwide. Tasks include planning and coordinating local or campus-specific workshops. Applicants for this position are required to provide a resume.

Blog Writer

As the Blog Writer for The Trailblazer Review, you will be in charge of creating content on writing advice and tips, suggested reading lists, creative writing opportunities, and other topics to promote our publication in the literary world and support and inspire aspiring young writers.

General Editor

As a General Editor, you will be responsible for acting on submissions to Trailblazer as a first reader. This can include poetry, fiction, and nonfiction pieces. After reviewing each submission, you will vote on the acceptance or rejection of a piece and provide your rationale to the team.

General Editors who have acted on 10 or more submissions and display exemplary work can apply to be promoted to Managing Editors.

FAQs

  • This really depends on the job you are applying to. Typically, General Editors spend one hour each week editing the submissions assigned to them. As a member of the Marketing Team or a Blog Writer, you would need to commit around two hours each week, especially when there are upcoming workshops, interviews, or other events.

  • As a high school literary magazine, Trailblazer is run and managed entirely by students between the age of 13 to 18. It is also an international community dedicated to connecting like-minded writers, poets, and humanities enthusiasts. Trailblazer also focuses on raising awareness for cultures worldwide.

  • Each week, we will send you one piece to review via email. There is an editing tracklist, where each editor would check off their name upon their assignment’s completion and provide a three-line general commentary on the work you reviewed.

  • No. You can apply to join us whenever you want. Upon acceptance, you will thrive alongside other young creatives, and make lasting friendships!
